Hunters gather in the morning before heading into the dunes in groups of 4-5 people. The start of the hunt is signalled by the traditional German hunting horn signals. Invariably, the dogs howl along with the signals.
Whoops, a couple of hunters with German Longhaired Pointers showed up as guests of the hotel owner. The Deutsch Langhaar as it is known in German is almost unknown in North America, but more popular than the Weimaraner in Germany.
After three hours of climbing the dunes, hunters gather for a hot lunch and perhaps a beer at the hunting hut. Game is hung outside. The sunny weather was a bonus that can't be counted upon.
